SKDC Councillor Charmaine Morgan, Chair SOS Grantham Hospital is delighted with the progress being made over the installation of new defibrillators for Grantham Town Centre.
She said ‘ Following a series of useful meetings with Cllr Reid and SKDC Officers, Grantham Lions, and other timely feedback from local residents, we are now looking forward to sharing details of the proposed sites. It has been important to cover as much of the town as possible.
“A combination of donations from the Lions and support from South Kesteven District Council means that in total 17 new defibrillators will go in across our town and surrounding area available 24/7 and managed by SKDC.
“The first of these is already installed in Wyndham Park thanks to the Lions. A detailed list of proposed sites has been forwarded to South Kesteven District Council who will be reviewing and publishing these for Public Consultation shortly after liaising with site owners.”
The proposed sites include Grantham Town Centre, including Market Square and St Peters Hill, Commercial Road, the area near Somerby Hill; Dysart Park; Bridge End Road/London Road; Harlaxton Road/Springfield Road; Trent Road; Chieveley Park; Harrowby Lane parade of shops; Manthorpe Estate parade of shops; Barrowby Gate in the vicinity of the Harvester site; Earlesfield Estate parade of shops; Harrowby Estate parade of shops and Arnoldfield/Gonerby.
Once installed the locations of the defibrillators will be published by SKDC. They will also be shared with 999 services who will be able to direct people to their nearest defibrillator in an emergency.
In addition to the defibrillators installed through the Lions and SKDC, the Rotary Club installed a defibrillator on the George Centre, Westgate and Walton Girls have a defibrillator on their fence.
Cllr Morgan said: “We are hugely grateful to any other organisations or businesses who have provided publicly accessible defibrillators. We have a large area to cover.
“The more defibrillators we have, the less far someone may have to go to access one when time is of the essence.
“Any organisation or business wanting to work with SKDC to provide more defibrillators is welcome to do so. Each costs approximately £2000 for the defibrillator and installation.”
She added: “This year I felt compelled to use my £1000 grant toward this important project and am hugely grateful to the Lions who have topped up the funds enabling us to purchase a defibrillator together.
“I cannot think of anything more important than the possibility of saving someone’s life. They are all the more important whilst our town is without a local A&E at night.”
Anyone with a query regarding the project is welcome to contact Cllr Charmaine Morgan on 07398 156296.
