James Proctor (1930-2012)
JAMES Ivan Proctor was born in Grantham, the son of Frank and Alice Proctor, of Houghton Road.
He was a keen singer and was a long-serving member of St Wulfram’s Choir and together with his brothers Stanley and Ralph were regular performers with the Grantham Operatic Society, where he consistently played the leading tenor roles.
During the 1970s he sang with The Rhythm Makers, the resident band at BMARC Social Club.
Educated at the Boys’ Central School, he left at 14 and went to work at Aveling Barford as a pattern maker, where he stayed for 36 years, until made redundant.
They could trace their family history in Grantham to the 1880s, when their grandfather, Aaron Proctor moved from Belchford, near Horncastle, to work at Hornsby’s.
