Cllr Charmaine Morgan says…

Further to below, I have been contacted by a local resident today with concerns regarding the traffic chaos caused by the current diversion of traffic from South Parade down Albert Street.
It is being used not only for local access but by HGVs, emergency vehicles and cars to access other parts of town and the A52 as I feared.
These vehicles are meeting the HGVs leaving the industrial estate on Houghton Rd both directions in a block of streets only capable of taking one way traffic.
The situation is ludicrous and dangerous.
I have a photograph of an HGV vehicle carrier mounting the pavement which is bearing not only the weight of the hgv but car it is carrying. This could cause damage to essential ducts and services under the paving too.
There was a near miss with an HGV as a child left Dysart Park Houghton Rd exit yesterday.
At least 2 parked vehicles have been struck.
The noise and risk is having a severe and unacceptable impact on residents in the area.
20mph zone request
I am also advised of ongoing issues with hgvs leaving the industrial estate and other vehicles leaving the estate speeding.
I suggest a 20mph zone for the block is put in place now and long term.
Recent Fly tipping outside a house being renovated is worsening the situation forcing pedestrians onto the road as well.
