A prisoner who assaulted a fellow inmate has been given a fresh sentence.
James Amos, 39, admitted committing the offence at HMP Stocken, near South Witham, on 5 February this year when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on Tuesday (27 August).
Amos went into the victim’s cell as he lay on his bed watching television and poured boiling water on him before repeatedly punching him. The victim was eventually able to break free and alert prison staff.
Amos, of HMP Leicester, was sentenced to eight years in custody for the offence.
Detective Inspector Esther Scott, said: “We take reports of assaults in prison extremely seriously and such incidents are still subject to a full police investigation.
“This kind of behaviour is will not be tolerated and those responsible should expect to receive further sentences.”
