Princess Drive

A START was made on building hundreds of new council homes in 1952 as the town got closer to Belton Park.

It began with Princess Drive and the following year, parallel road Queensway began, and was also named after Her Majesty following the coronation.

Princess Drive was formally opened by the Mayor Of Grantham, Ernest Hardy, in 1954.

The road was planned to be the first part of a ring-road for Grantham. Other connections were Harrowby Road, Bridge End Road and Springfield Road.

Six roads built in 1954 were  named after Australian and New Zealand towns visited during the year by the Queen. Other roads included Ash Grove and Almond Grove.
