Martin Pratt (1952-2011)
Martin Pratt was head of technology at Central Technology and Sports College Martin Pratt, who was forced to retire through ill health aged 56. He died three years later.
Born in Rhyl North Wales, he trained as a joiner after leaving school then joined the RAF.
After just a couple of months he was promoted to the rank of corporal and transferred to the SAS, where he saw a lot of active service. This is believed to have led to his illness.
While in the SAS he started taking his qualifications to become a teacher.
In 1977 he left the Army and became a site agent for Barratt Homes while he finished his teaching qualifications.
A year later he became a teaching assistant in a school in Nottinghamshire before taking up his post at Central Technology and Sports College in 1979.
He scored five stars in Lincolnshire’s Rate My Teacher.
Martin had a passion for the outdoors and this did not change during his time at the school.
He took the students on trips all over the world and became the Duke of Edinburgh Awards co-ordinator for Lincolnshire.
He also started HeartStart, which taught first aid to the students, and the Lives First Responders Group in Osbournby.
