Officers, staff and members of the public were recognised last night (27 June) for professionalism, dedication, bravery and outstanding contributions to policing at a ceremony held at Lincolnshire Police Headquarters. 

Awards were presented by the High Sheriff for Lincolnshire, Jill Hughes.  

For their assistance during a medical emergency, commendations were awarded to: 

• Special Sergeant Nick Lamb
• Detective Constable Georgia McCormack
• Sergeant Daniel McCormack
• Constable Charlie Smith
• Police Community Support Officer Nicole Woolerton

On the evening of Saturday 28 July 2018 Special Sergeant Nick Lamb was on duty at the Heckington show when he was called to assist with a man who had collapsed.

The man was not breathing and had no pulse, so Sgt Lamb commenced CPR and off duty officers, Detective Constable Georgia McCormack and Constable Charlie Smith, who had been attending the event with their families, assisted.

Sergeant Daniel McCormack and Police Community Support Officer Nicole Woolerton, who were also off duty attending the show assisted at the scene, using Special Sergeant Lamb’s radio to communicate with the Force Control Room and gave reassurance to the man’s wife until the ambulance arrived.

We are pleased to report that the man survived and attended the ceremony last night to see the Officers awarded for their actions.

The officers all received a Chief Constable’s Commendation. Constable Smith (who was unable to attend), Special Sgt Lamb and Detective Constable McCormack also received a Royal Humane Society Resuscitation Certificate.

Detective Sergeant Stuart Fortune

Detective Sergeant Stuart Fortune was off duty when he found himself at the scene of a collision on the A46 near Skellingthorpe in November 2018. He took control of the scene and immediately considered the medical needs of the other drivers involved.

He pulled the driver from the first vehicle and commenced CPR. The vehicle was smoking and had petrol leaking from it. Whilst doing this Stuart also advised members of the public on how they could help. He assisted a woman and her young family from their vehicle to ensure that they were safe.

Stuart continued to provide medical assistance until other emergency services arrived.

Officers who attended the scene in an official capacity highlighted Stuart’s bravery, commitment and professionalism in the way that he commanded the scene and ensured medical treatment and support was provided to those who required it.

Nick Curtis, Constable Matthew Flint, Inspector Joanne Fortune and Rebecca Soutar

Operation Mellifluous was a complex, proactive investigation that focussed on the supply of controlled drugs into Lincolnshire by two organised crime groups.

Due to the level the groups were operating at, the use of surveillance was required, followed by the execution of multiple search warrants.

Following execution of the search warrants and multiple arrests a detailed and complex investigation continued.

Detective Sergeant Jo Fortune managed the long running investigation and was responsible for completing the large case file whilst managing her day to day workload. The level of responsibility and capacity she carried was over and above that which would normally be expected of one individual. Without her drive, perseverance and determination this case may not have resulted in such a positive outcome.

The case hinged on the analytical work conducted initially by Nick Curtis and later by Becky Soutar.

Constable Matt Flintham was instrumental in the planning and execution of the search warrants, the management of the numerous exhibits seized and a wide range of enquiries throughout the investigation. He was also praised for the evidence given at court.

As a result of all this hard work the eight defendants received a total of 53 years imprisonment with the ringleaders also receiving Serious Crime Prevention Orders.

Detective Inspector Peter Shaw and Doctor Kieran Sharrock

Detective Inspector Pete Shaw and Doctor Kieran Sharrock have undertaken some ground-breaking work in relation to medical reports for all firearms and shotgun applications and renewals, designing and implementing a process that has made Lincolnshire and indeed the whole country a safer place to live and work.

DI Shaw and Dr Sharrock dedicated a considerable amount of time and effort into creating a system which ensured that all grant and renewal applications would only be signed off when a GP Report was produced.

As a result of DI Shaw and Dr Sharrock’s drive and determination, Lincolnshire now has a far more rigorous and informed checking process, thereby ensuring that only suitable candidates are licensed to hold firearms or shotguns and ultimately making Lincolnshire a much safer place to live and work.

Doctor Sharrock was unable attend, however, Jill Hughes to presented a Certificate of Chief Constable’s Commendation to Detective Inspector Peter Shaw.

Tony Mendham

Tony Mendham is an outstanding and valued member of the Police family, serving as a Lincolnshire Police Officer for 30 years and then, upon his retirement taking up his current role as Enquiry Officer in the Firearms Licensing Department.

Tony was commended for his enthusiasm, professionalism and dedication to Lincolnshire over 40 years.

Special Sergeant Lee Allen

Special Sergeant Lee Allen is an outstanding officer who has supported the local policing team in Grantham since 2009 and continues to support response when staffing is challenging.

Lee regularly supports the local policing team by attending local engagement events in the Grantham area.

Lee sets a precedent for all Special Constables not just for his outstanding commitment to the role and friendly persona but for his passion, enthusiasm, professionalism and dedication to Lincolnshire Police and the community of Grantham.

Lee is a vital part of the Grantham team and the wider Lincolnshire Police family.

Special Inspector Ben Stanley

Special Inspector Ben Stanley is an outstanding officer who has supported the local policing team in Bourne since 2009.

Ben is an integral part of the local team and has supported response when staffing has been challenging and regularly makes himself available to support the policing of local community events in Bourne, Stamford and The Deepings.

Ben has recently coordinated his team of Special Constables to carry out additional patrols in Market Deeping to combat anti-social behaviour issues.

Aside from the Special Constabulary, Ben has also been a Cadet Leader for Bourne Police Cadets for numerous years; passing on his knowledge of policing and supporting the career pathways of Lincolnshire Police’s next generation.

Ben sets a precedent for all Special Constables not just for his outstanding commitment and dedication to the role, but for his passion, enthusiasm and professionalism to the community of Bourne and the wider Lincolnshire Police family.

Special Constable Scott Wilson

Special Constable Scott Wilson is an outstanding officer who has supported the local policing team in Bourne since 2010.

Scott is an integral part of the local team at Bourne and has supported response when staffing has been challenging and regularly makes himself available to support the policing of local community events in Bourne, Stamford and The Deepings.

Scott is a well-known character in the Bourne area and can regularly be found on foot patrol; serving his community and speaking to members of the public.

Scott has recently begun working for the Ambulance Service in his ‘day job’ and he regularly utilises these skills whilst on duty as a Special Constable.

Scott’s dedication, professionalism, commitment and passion to the Special Constabulary role and to the community of Bourne and the wider Lincolnshire Police family is outstanding.

Special Sergeant Steven Barnes

Special Sergeant Steve Barnes is an outstanding officer who has supported the local policing team in Horncastle since 2009. 
Steve is an integral part of the local team and has supported response when staffing has been challenging.

Steve is an excellent supervisor to all Special Constables in his area and is readily available to support his officers when needed ensuring that Horncastle has an active and well organised pool of Special Constables.

Steve continually demonstrates his passion, commitment, dedication and professionalism for his role as a Special Sergeant and is an integral part of the team at Horncastle and the wider Lincolnshire Police family.
