Over the past few weeks, there has been a noticeable increase in the amount of dog waste on the football fields at Harrowby training pitches. These sports pitches have just started to be used again after a long period of being left dormant and obviously have been utilised by local dog owners.
This issue not only affects the aesthetics and cleanliness of the field but also raises health and hygiene concerns for the players and spectators alike. Given the importance of maintaining a clean and safe environment for the enjoyment of our local sports, I am hoping the local community helps us clean up these fields so they can be enjoyed by all the local children who just want to play football without the fear of treading or landing in dog waste.
Alastair Gidley, of Gonerby FC, said: “I Myself am a dog owner and as responsible pet owner I fully understand the importance of keeping public spaces clean. It would be great if all owners could foster a greater sense of responsibility when they are walking their dog and think of others who want to use the field safely.
“Our local football ground is a vital resource for the community, providing a space for recreation and social interaction. By addressing this issue, we can ensure that it remains a pleasant and sanitary environment for all users.
“Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I hope we can enjoy the sports field without having to spend hours cleaning up after someone else’s dog.
“I am confident that, with the communities support, we can resolve this problem and continue to enjoy the benefits of our local sports facilities.”
