Plans have been submitted to South Kesteven planners, for of nine three-bedroomed terraced houses on Westbourne Place, Grantham.
The proposed development site is a walled garden with a 43-metre long frontage to the west side of Westbourne Place situated opposite the existing twelve terraced houses. The depth of the proposed site is 31 metres.
The existing walled garden has a 3.5 metre high wall onto Westbourne Place. The garden is accessed via double gates within the frontage to Westbourne Place.
It was formerly the site of the original Mowbray’s Brewery, opened in 1828 and closed 15 years later when the business moved to Brewery Hill, next door to Redhead Brewery which it later took over.
The site has been a garden for at least 100 years with several apple trees and are large sheds which would have to be removed.
One of the sheds is a former town jail, which served Grantham Police station before it moved to Stonebridge. The timber building was rescued when the old police station near the Guildhall closed in the 1950s and found a new use
It was behind the station, in the Guildhall yard, and used to hold short-term detainees including drunks.
The houses would have a redbrick finish with concrete tiled roofs to match the existing houses opposite.
