Petition launched to end speeding on Bridge End Road in Grantham

July 26, 2025 Leave a Comment

Char Marks says….

The Issue

Living near Bridge End Road in Grantham, I am acutely aware of the pollution and noise from vehicles speeding down our Road. The situation has escalated to the point where it deeply affects our quality of life. Not only does excessive speeding pose a threat to the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, but it also contributes to significant air pollution due to increased fuel consumption and emissions. This increase in noise and pollution affects not only those of us living nearby but the wider community, impacting the health and well-being of everyone in Grantham.

Statistics show that reducing vehicle speed can significantly decrease noise pollution and improve air quality. A study by the World Health Organization indicates that every 1 mph reduction in speed can lead to a 5% decrease in accidents. Simultaneously, slower speeds reduce vehicle emissions, directly benefiting the environment and the local community’s health.

Concrete actions must be taken immediately. Implementing traffic calming measures such as speed bumps, additional signage, and increased patrols can effectively mitigate this issue. These measures have proven successful in other towns across the UK and can be efficiently adapted for Grantham’s needs.

We call upon the Lincolnshire County Council and traffic authorities to prioritise the safety and well-being of its residents by enforcing stricter speed regulations and installing necessary traffic calming measures on Bridge End Road. It’s time for action before tragedy strikes. Help us bring about this essential change by signing this petition.
