A former Mayor of Grantham has been elected to Grantham Town Council in yesterday’s by-election.
Patrick ‘Paddy’ Perry, took 175 votes as a declared independent member of Grantham Together for the Springfield by-election, following the resignation on health grounds by Coun Kevin Doughty.
His opponents, were Mary Whittington (Conservative) who gained 110 votes and Jonathan Wacey (Labour) with 81 votes.
Coun Perry was Town Mayor in 1980, and was in office when Grantham was voted ‘Most Boring Town in the UK’.
The turnout for the by-election was 9.47%, and two ballot papers were rejected.
Coun Perry failed to take one of the three available seats when he stood in the May elections.
