Following Grantham Rivercare’s initial clean-up and survey of the Witham on Tuesday, they’re incredibly grateful to Lions Environmental Limited for their incredible support.
Andrew and Tom joined them on Wednesday and Thursday to tackle the riverside, focusing on the lower berm downstream of Harrowby Weir.
The amount of debris was staggering!
They filled over 11 bags, including some truly bizarre finds: traffic cones, bed pans, frying pans, shoes, nets, and much more.
A spokesman said: “We even unearthed some historical items dating back to the 1970s, including a half-pint milk bottle (remember those school days?).
“We also discovered a long-necked bottle with “Grantham” on it – stay tuned for more on that!”
This weekend, the riverside surveys continue. A massive thank you to Andrew and Tom for their dedication. Over 8 hours, they collected an astonishing 15 bags of litter, traffic cones, a bike, tent and even a broken canoe!
