Anglian Water is throwing open the gates of its Saltersford Water Treatment Centre near Grantham on Saturday October 10th to explain the important process of bringing clean, healthy water to our homes.
Residents in the area can learn how water is pumped from Rutland Water to the works at Saltersford before being treated to remove impurities and then pumped to 37,000 homes across Grantham and central Lincolnshire.
Visitors can also learn how the money they pay for their water services is being spent, try their hand at managing the region’s water network in the Water Supply Challenge and get tips and free giveaways to help use water efficiently.
Susan Fennah, customer engagement manager from Anglian Water, said: “We have got plans for spending nearly £5 billion over the next five years on water supply and water recycling services. But for most people what we do is out of sight – it’s underground or behind closed gates.
“So we wanted to open up those gates and show people where their money goes – whilst also talking to them about our plans for the years to come.
“With a tour of the water treatment site, activities and a team of experts on hand to answer any questions we hope these open days will be fun and informative for visitors of all ages – and will also give us the chance to talk to them about the service we provide and hear their views.”
Limited spaces are available for tours so booking is essential – please visit www.anglianwater.co.uk/opendays to book a place on the tour. Please note for health and safety reasons children must be ten or over to visit Saltersford Water Treatment Centre.
Two years ago Anglian Water launched its biggest ever consultation with customers and stakeholders – called Discover, Discuss, Decide.
An independent Customer Engagement Forum was set up to represent the interests of customers, businesses and the environment as we put together our business plan for the region for 2015 to 2020.
In total the views of more than 50,000 people informed our plans to invest in jobs and infrastructure, tackle flooding, protect the environment and maintain a high quality service.
The road show open days are just one of the ways we aim to keep in touch with customers as we begin to implement those plans.
