Obam Stairlifts celebrates its 25 th birthday in August 2025 by giving back to the community
through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The family business is donating two new straight stairlifts to nominated causes in Lincolnshire
and Nottinghamshire, marking a quarter-century of helping people stay in the homes they love.
Who can nominate someone for a free straight stairlift?
Anyone can nominate someone they know who would benefit from a straight stairlift donation.
You might know an elderly neighbour struggling with stairs, a family member recovering from
surgery, or someone with mobility challenges who can’t afford this life-changing equipment. The
nomination process is simple and open to everyone.

What straight stairlifts are being donated?
Two high-quality straight stairlifts will be donated as part of this birthday celebration. The first is
a new Access BDD HomeGlide Extra Straight Stairlift featuring a powered swivel seat. This
model offers the perfect marriage of design and functionality for any straight staircase, with a
slim aluminium rail that gives a modern, clean look. The HomeGlide stairlift includes a
retractable seatbelt for security, a comfortable soft-touch joystick that needs minimal effort to
operate, and battery power so it works even during power cuts. It can carry up to 25 stone
(160kg) and fits staircases as narrow as 740mm (29 inches).
The second donation is a new Platinum Stairlifts Ergo Straight Stairlift with a powered swivel
seat. This model stands out with its customisable options, including an ergonomic seat design
crafted for superior comfort during transit. The seat height, arms, backrest and footplate can be
adjusted to provide comfort for most users of various shapes and sizes.
How will Obam choose the recipients?
Obam Stairlifts will carefully review all nominations and select two recipients. Each chosen
nominee will receive a free straight stairlift including a 12-month parts and labour warranty.
Obam will conduct a site survey before installation to ensure each recipient gets the right
product for their needs and that the stairlift is suitable for the user.
Why is Obam making this donation?
This gesture reflects Obam’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility and dedication to
helping people maintain their independence at home. Founded in 2000 by brothers Chris and
Steve Butroid alongside business partners Lee Ogden and Pete Morley, Obam has built its
reputation on delivering personal, reliable service to customers across Lincolnshire and
Nottinghamshire.
The company’s directors have almost 100 years of combined experience in the stairlift and
adaptations market. As an approved Access BDD dealer and Platinum Stairlifts Approved
Platinum Partner, Obam only employs salaried surveyors/advisors, not salespeople, ensuring
customers get the best solution for their needs.
What makes Obam different from other stairlift companies?
Obam’s independence allows them to access the best mobility aids from top manufacturers
worldwide. They work extensively with local authorities, occupational therapists and private
individuals to deliver customised solutions for even the most challenging access issues. The
company holds contracts with many local councils and participates in the Disabled Facilities
Grants Scheme.
Their award-winning service includes true 24/7 engineer support, not just a call centre. This
means help is always available, even on Christmas and Bank Holidays. All their mobility
products come with a minimum 12-month warranty, and their manufacturer-trained engineers
carry out routine servicing and repairs.
The nomination and selection process coincides with Obam’s 25 th birthday celebrations. Terms
and conditions apply, including the requirement for a site survey before installation.
Chris Butroid, Managing Director of Obam Stairlifts, said: “Reaching our 25 th birthday is a
milestone we’re incredibly proud of. We’ve spent a quarter-century helping people stay in their
homes safely and comfortably. This donation scheme allows us to thank the community that has
supported us throughout our journey. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by – nominate someone
today at obam.co.uk/birthday and help them regain their independence at home.”
