Lynda North says…
These two potholes in Dudley Road were filled on Tuesday or Wednesday this week.

The hole next to the yellow lines is adjacent to the postbox on the junction with St Catherine’s Road and liquid tar (or similar) has been used to seal all 4 edges.
Hopefully this patch will last for more than a few weeks.

Meanwhile, the second patch (outside Nos 4/6) see photos, beside the single white line, has no sealant round the very rough edges and looks as if it will last barely a week before the loose tar is forced out of the hole by passing cars.
No attempt has been made to remove the loose gravel from the former hole, which simply adds to all the leaf litter and loose stones on the road. I have no idea if these two holes, presumably filled at the same time, were “mended” by the same team, but can anyone tell me why there is such a difference in the two patches, one of which is definitely not fit for purpose?
Also, can someone, a local councillor maybe, tell me why there appears to be NO quality control on local road repairs?
Why are we tax payers paying Balfour Beatty (or similar company) a large fortune to do such shoddy repairs all round Grantham ?
They are now putting patches on older patches, and, like painting the Forth Bridge, there is no end in sight. Grantham roads will never get any better without strict quality control and a time constraint on repairs, meaning reported potholes should be mended in less than 2 weeks – not 2+ months.
