New defib and bleed control kit for the town centre

There’s a welcome new addition on Grantham High Street. A defibrillator and an emergency bleed control kit have been fitted to the outside of the Nationwide branch, giving the town centre two more points where lifesaving help is close at hand.

Because both are mounted on the front of the building rather than inside, they can be reached at any time of day or night, not only when the branch is open. You’ll spot the red bleed control kit to the left of the window and the yellow defibrillator cabinet by the door.

A defibrillator, or AED, is used when someone goes into cardiac arrest. It’s designed to be used by anyone, even without training, as it talks you through each step out loud and only delivers a shock if one is needed. Used quickly alongside CPR, it can make a real difference while the ambulance is on its way.

The bleed control kit is there for emergencies involving serious bleeding. Kits like these typically hold items such as dressings and a tourniquet to help slow or stop heavy blood loss in those vital first minutes before paramedics arrive. The cabinet has a keypad lock, with instructions on the unit itself for how to get access in an emergency.
