Ruth Edwards MP will be submitting a bid to secure a share of Government funding to improve local rail services with the support of neighbouring MPs, Alicia Kearns (Melton) and Gareth Davies (Grantham).
The Department for Transport’s £500 million Restoring Your Railway Fund is earmarked for projects to restore lost railway connections to communities.
This line currently extends between Nottingham to Skegness, through Grantham, Lincolnshire, and the proposal is to improve services in both directions.
The project will greatly benefit local communities, particularly in rural areas, where rail services are infrequent and simple journeys take too long.
Transforming Radcliffe on Trent into viable commuter stop will encourage residents to make use of the railway.
Extended gaps between services and an unsuitable train timetable – with some services running from the city of Nottingham to Radcliffe on Trent stopping too early – are among some of the motivations behind the bid.
Congestion on the nearby A52 highway network as a result of ongoing work makes the problem of reliable public transport one Mrs Edwards is keen to address.
The full business case for successful bids will be submitted to the Department for Transport in June.
