Bob Mountain (b1956)
BORN at Wombwell, Robert Mountain began his football career at Bolton Wanderers and then made one appearance for Huddersfield Town during the 1973/74 season, before joining Frickley Athletic, Mexborough Town and Bridlington Trinity.
He was signed for Grantham by his former Manager, Geoff Barker, making his debut in the December 1980 league match at home to Runcorn and only days later was playing against Nottingham Forest in the Redmayne Trophy.
Despite already missing half of the league fixtures, as the season finished Bob came close to over-hauling the club’s top goalscorer, Dave Leadbeater, aided by hat-tricks against Buxton and Netherfield.
The following campaign he made another 15 appearances, but surprisingly only scored twice more, the last of which was against Matlock Town in the first round of the Northern Premier League Cup.
Bob made his final appearance for Grantham in Nottingham Forest’s return game in November 1981 and he then went on to play for Alfreton Town, Matlock Town, where he finished as the Northern Premier League’s leading scorer during the 1982/83 season, and Stafford Rangers.
