Albert George Morris (1913 – 1995)
Known as Bert, he was born in Oxfordshire and lived there with his family before moving to Swindon as a 14-year-old.
He began work at a shoe shop in the town, and moved to Grantham as manager of Hiltons, in Guildhall Street.
A member of St John Ambulance, he joined the Royal Army Medical Corps in the Second World War, stationed in India and Burma.
He attained the rank of warrant officer by the time he was demobbed in 1945.
Returning to Grantham, he was employed by Eddison Plant Hire as chief wages clerk until retirement in 1977.
He was an avid sportsman, playing football cricket and badminton in his young days, before taking up fishing, cribbage and darts in later years.
He was also a founder member of Grantham Indoor Bowling Club as well as playing the outdoor version of the sport.
