Table tennis academy player debuts in commentary at world championship
A college table tennis player-turned-commentator has returned from Budapest after delivering an impressive performance at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Championship tournament.
Fraser Riley, a member of Grantham College’s world-renowned table tennis academy, was invited to the Hungarian capital where he was at the microphone for 20 matches.
His commentary was heard by millions all over the world in 175 different countries.
Fraser decided to give commentary a go after applying to the ITTF, who asked him to complete a trial before he was selected to analyse at the tournament.
He described his first time commentating on a match as “nerve-wracking” but is delighted with the positive feedback he has received.
“I heard so many good reviews from other staff from when I was there,” Fraser said.
“It was a once in a lifetime opportunity, and it can open a lot of doors in the future.”
However, Fraser hopes that he has left enough of an impression to receive an invitation for upcoming tournaments.
Following his studies at Grantham College, Fraser is aiming to secure a place on the Philosophy course at the University of Nottingham.
