Grantham’s Marketplace will step back in time this October as the Grantham Medieval Onion Fair brings a day of entertainment, food, crafts and history to the town.
Taking place on Saturday 10th October, the event will run alongside Grantham’s monthly Farmers Market and regular market, giving visitors plenty of reasons to head into the town centre and enjoy a unique day out.
Visitors can expect to meet the Knights of Skirbeck, who will take over six stalls in the Marketplace, showcasing different aspects of medieval life. Their displays will include an armourer, blacksmith, tanner, candlemaker and medieval clothing and textiles, alongside an information and display stall.
There will also be plenty of entertainment throughout the day, with the Rutland Renaissance Dancers performing medieval dances, hosting a dance workshop and putting on a medieval fashion show.
History fans can hear from the Knights of Skirbeck at 11am, with a presentation about Richard III, while visitors will also be able to get involved with interactive medieval-themed craft activities.
The marketplace will be filled with traders getting into the spirit of the event, with many regular market traders dressing in medieval costume and adding onion-themed products, displays and decorations to their stalls.
Onion and medieval-themed food will be on offer throughout the event.
