Amazing, awesome and fab is how customers of a popular butcher’s and sandwich shop have greeted the idea of home deliveries.
Watkin & Sons already does a roaring trade in filled sandwiches and cobs, cakes, sausage rolls and fresh meat from its store in Westgate.
Now, Watkin’s has suggested launching a delivery service with a minimum spend of £15 – which has prompted a huge response from customers.
And following nearly 600 comments on Facebook, Watkin’s is currently planning how the new service will operate, possibly with deliveries to Grantham Monday to Saturday and surrounding villages on set days and times.
Mel Cant wrote on Facebook that she would place a weekly order for delivery.
She posted: “I use Watkin’s every week so to have it delivered would be fantastic.”
Julie Harrod, from Grantham, wrote: “Fab idea. I remember the Watkin’s van coming round the streets when I was little.
“My Auntie Sandra drove it. Always a good day when Watkin’s delivered!”
Lainey Depp commented: “Brilliant idea for people who have to have delivery because they can’t get out but would rather buy meat from the butcher than a supermarket. Support your local businesses and all that.”
Phillippa Paulette, from Ancaster, posted: “Omg. As someone who normally spends £40+ a week on your amazing products, but hasn’t been able to do so more than once since this madness (I can’t stand long enough to queue) this would be a massive YES from us.”
There were calls for deliveries to Woodhall Spa, Waddington, Melton Mowbray and even Scotland and Ormskirk in Lancashire but the business says it is concentrating on more local deliveries.
The shop posted on Facebook: “Thank you for your amazing response to our idea of introducing delivery.
“This is a completely new idea for us here at Watkin’s so we have a lot of work to do before we can begin delivering!
“We have had a lot of questions regarding delivery to villages surrounding Grantham. At the moment our initial thoughts are that we will be delivering to Grantham mon-sat and surrounding villages would be done on set days/times.
“Thank you again for your continued support.”
However, Ian Hopkins said home delivery could be too much of a good thing.
He wrote: “No, please don’t. I like a bit of Watkin’s, we all do, but I manage to restrain myself because it means having to physically get down to your shop.
“If you put it all online and do a home delivery service I’m going to be totally unable to control myself.
