Man, 69, jailed for 17 years after sexually abusing child

A pensioner who sexually abused a young girl has been jailed for 17 years.

Roger Faulkner, of Donington-on-Bain, appeared on trial at Lincoln Crown Court on Friday, May 10, accused of eight sexual offences against the child.

The 69-year-old of Neve Gardens denied two charges of rape on a child aged under-13. He also pleaded not guilty to six other matters of sexual assault.

But it took a jury under 90 minutes to find Faulkner guilty of all eight offences which took place over an eight-month period in which he groomed his victim with gifts and treats.

Now, he has been sentenced and will face 17 years behind bars for what the judge described as “disgusting abuse”.

Faulkner will also have to serve an extended licence period for a year after his release from custody and has been ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

DC Carla Sutton of PVP in East Lindsey said: “Faulkner’s behaviour was vile and unacceptable.

“This conduct will not be tolerated in Lincolnshire, and we will pursue all lines of enquiry to robustly investigate such cases and bring offenders to justice.

“The victim in this case has had to wait a prolonged period of time for justice and she has shown nothing but bravery. I hope that she can now start moving forward with her life.

“We will always listen as we seek to make our county the safest place to live, work and visit and would like to encourage anyone who has experienced a similar crime to get in touch.”
