Jake Kerr says…
The cricketers were invited to take part in the traditional Boxing Day football match on the Ancaster Playing Field. A Select team from Ancaster Athletic were the opposition.
Both teams entered in it in the right spirit with squads of fifteen or more to pick from though on more than one occasion the cricketers manager, Luke Harley looked to have had twelve on the field at one time.
Andy Cullam managing the footballers did have youth on his side but the cricketers used all their experience to the fullest to even up the odds by managing to get one really good ringer in to the team.
Our use of ringers in the summer hasn’t paid off that much in the summer but the winter sport is a different matter!
The Cricket Club came out on top winning the match 3-2.
Occasional cricketer and more of a hockey star Nathan Chambers won the golden boot award.
Colin Blankley was the referee handing out yellow cards in the way of fines for the charity pot. Emma Moody provided welcome post match chilli and chips to see everybody through the afternoon’s warm down for the athletes.
A brilliant £284 was raised for Dementia UK through fines, donations and a 50/50 draw in the club. Sadly last word goes to the cricket clubs wicketkeeper/batsman Will Harris who sustained a nasty injury which he had surgery on yesterday (Tuesday).
Here is hoping for a speedy recovery for Will and we look forward to seeing him in the summer.
