Lincolnshire’s mental health and learning disabilities NHS trust has been shortlisted in national awards which recognise its work to support the learning and development of its nursing staff.
Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT) has been recognised as a finalist in the Nursing Times Workforce Awards 2020, in the category ‘Best Workplace for Learning and Development’.
This comes in recognition of efforts made to streamline and improve vital Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) training, which enables the safety of both staff and patients on LPFT’s wards.
The project team included representatives from a wide range of Trust services including the PMVA Team, the Learning and Development Team, Health Roster and Bank Staffing Unit. The project team worked to establish a concrete structure with the aim of improving timely access to training, removing the need for waiting lists and reducing non-attendance. As a result staff were made to feel more confident while working on the wards, while protecting patients and staff from potential harm.
Lesley Lashmar, LPFT PMVA Team Leader said the shortlist is the result of much hard work from all teams involved.
“I am extremely proud of what this project has achieved and continue to be amazed by the motivation of all involved, to ensure we sustain what we have started.
“This training is vital for our staff to feel confident in dealing with potentially volatile situations. The importance of ensuring that the right staff, get the right training at the right time cannot be underestimated. Equipping our staff to practice in a competent and confident manner will ensure the safety and protection of both patients and staff.”
Anita Lewin, Director of Nursing, Allied Health Professionals and Quality also said:
“As a Trust we consider the safety of our staff and patients a matter of paramount importance. This continual work to uphold safety has been emphasised by the pandemic this year and our staff have shown unwavering resilience throughout.
“A massive congratulations to the teams involved, you are an asset to the Trust and should all be very proud of this achievement.”
The winners will be announced at The Nursing Times Workforce Awards virtual ceremony and summit which takes place from 2 to 3 December 2020.
