“Lincolnshire has stayed ahead of the curve in many ways when it comes to social care, but it’s not time to rest now” says Melanie Weatherley MBE, chair of Lincolnshire Care Association (LinCA).
An ambitious 10-year plan for the future of Greater Lincolnshire’s social care has been set out in the latest white paper from LinCA, highlighting the huge strides – and challenges – the county’s social care sector faces.
The Government’s white paper from February 2022, ‘Health and social care integration: joining up care for people, places and populations’ breaks down their plan to create a more integrated health and social care sector, and LinCA’s own white paper explores how Lincolnshire can better integrate its own systems in a way that works for the 19,000 care workers across the region.
LinCA’s ‘Do you care? The future of adult social care in Lincolnshire’ has been created in consultation with social care providers across the county, aiming to tackle the demands of social care from an ever-growing ageing population. Lincolnshire care home providers including Grosvenor House Care Home, Country Court Care and Walnut Care played a huge part in developing the plan, sharing their past experiences and discussing where they see the future of sustainable adult social care within their organisations.
According to LinCA’s chair, Melanie Weatherley MBE, the paper proposes a “bold ambition” for the Lincolnshire social care sector. She said: “Our new forward-thinking plan is based around the ‘four Cs’ – community, collaboration, connection and choice – and we break down not just why the social care sector needs to change, but how it can be done successfully across the county.
“We have the power to make crucial change at a local level. We have a rare opportunity to take charge of Lincolnshire’s social care future. We have the chance to make life better for the older and vulnerable people right on our doorstep. We must take advantage of the current swell of public support and move towards a care service in Lincolnshire that works for everyone and is fit for purpose in the 21st century.”
With extensive information on adult social care, care for older people and care for people with learning disabilities, the whitepaper showcases LinCA’s 10-year vision for a more integrated social care sector within Lincolnshire. The plan underpins the future challenges that social care, the NHS, key decision-makers and communities need to tackle in order to improve care for the regions older and vulnerable people.
