Anglian Water is building a new network of interconnecting water pipelines, including a pipeline from Lincoln to Grantham.
The first 25km section, will start south of Lincoln, near Waddington, and end near Ancaster, north of Grantham.
It will eventually join up with other planned pipelines to the north and south to form Anglian Water’s Lincoln to Grantham pipeline, which will link with several others and run from North Lincolnshire to Essex in the south of our region. We also plan to build a new pumping station near Waddington.
Following the online virtual customer engagement event, we submitted our plans to North Kesteven District Council and South Kesteven District Council and they have now given permission to start our work.
They have completed most of the field work, such as wildlife and archaeological surveys and groundwork tests and made some interesting discoveries during this stage, including two Iron Age skeletons – click here to read more about our finds.
The company have started to prepare areas along the route of the pipeline so the main work – specifically, laying water pipes – can begin.
This is known as ‘enabling work’ and includes setting up compounds where staff and equipment will be based. Compound locations include Tower Lane, near Harmston, and Green Man Road, in Navenby. They will be in place until the end of 2021. Click here to see the planned compound locations on a map.
There will also be creating access for our teams to work, building fences and putting up safety signage. Work has meant the removal of a small number of hedgerows and specialised camouflaged fences have been installed to ensure bats, who use hedgerows for navigation, don’t lose their way.
Construction – which includes laying pipes and creation of temporary storage lagoons – will start imminently.
