Lincolnshire Care Assocation (LinCA) responds to the latest findings shown in the state of health care and adult social care in England 2021/22 report from the Care Quality Commission.
The report looks at the quality of care in England over the past year, showing trends, examples of good and outstanding care, and highlighting where care needs to improve.
Results from the report show how the health and social care system is ‘gridlocked’, with staff shortages and struggles in recruiting and retaining staff a huge contributing factor. The findings also reveal large numbers of people being stuck in hospital longer than they need to be, due to a lack of available social care.
Melanie Weatherley MBE, chair of LinCa, has spoken up for Lincolnshire’s social care sector following the latest findings from CQC’s annual assessment.
She said: “We recognise the ‘gridlock’ described in the report and welcome the regulator’s comments – we know the heart of these problems stem from staff shortages and recruitment struggles within the social care sector.
“We’re working closely with Lincolnshire’s health and care system to support our colleagues in the field – in particular, innovative joint working is being developed to reduce avoidable visits to hospital.
“Care homes and home care providers in Lincolnshire are doing everything that they can to recruit and develop more staff, but we agree with the CQC. Social care needs substantial, sustained funding in order to survive.”
LinCA represents care and support providers in both the independent and voluntary sectors. The UK adult social care sector supports some of the most vulnerable people in society, and LinCA works closely alongside care providers across Lincolnshire by supporting their delivery of effective services and ensuring a sustainable choice of quality care provisions.
