The Liberal Democrats have announced their candidate for Stamford and Grantham in next year’s General Election.
Coun Harrish Bisnauthsing has been selected as the prospective parliamentary candidate.
He is a long serving South Kesteven district and town councillor in Stamford who stood for the Lib Dems in 2010.
He recently came third in the vacant Stamford North seat at the county council by-election.
Chairman of South Lincolnshire Liberal Democrats Brian Withnall said: “Harrish is enthusiastically involved in the life of his community and is respected by people of all parties and of none as a person who listens to and addresses the problems of the people he represents in Stamford.
“Harrish is truly a local candidate and I know of no better street campaigner.”
At his selection meeting, Coun Bisnauthsing pledged to ‘bring the Liberal Democrat message to the people of Grantham and Stamford’.
He added: “As a Liberal Democrat, I am passionate about civil liberties, a good deal for pensioners, parents and young people and making Britain more democratic and egalitarian.”
Born in Mauritius, Coun Bisnauthsing came to Britain more than 40 years ago. He served in the RAF for 10 years as a radar technician and subsequently set up his own computer business.
He is married to Pamela and has three adult children.
