The Lincolnshire Virtual School Games, a programme of sport inspired challenges, has been keeping children across Lincolnshire active at home since the end of April. Active Lincolnshire, and the School Games Organisers of Lincolnshire, have today launched the final competition in the programme, the Primary Tri-Golf Challenge. The organisation is encouraging as many children as possible to get involved in this final competition.
To launch the competition Active Lincolnshire have enlisted the help of Lincolnshire professional golfer Ashton Turner, who has demonstrated the three games that make up the challenge. Watch his video at: https://youtu.be/X0kaX-D-UJE
As with previous challenges, no specialist equipment is needed – instead of a golf club and ball children can use a tennis ball, a cricket bat, tennis racket or even a broom!
The best entries from KS2 children in each of the eight School Games areas, will go forward to the Virtual County Final. Finalists will be shared and celebrated and winners from all eight competitions announced on Wednesday 1st July at 10am.
Jess Lovett, Project Delivery Officer at Active Lincolnshire commented:
“The aim of this series of competitions is to ensure that the spirit of the School Games is able to continue despite the social distancing restrictions currently in place. It’s been fantastic to see so many children getting involved in these virtual competitions over the past seven weeks, and we’re looking forward to celebrating the achievement of the participants, winners and finalists at the Virtual County Final on the 1 July. We are really pleased that Ashton Turner has been able to help us launch the Tri-Golf Challenge, and we hope he will inspire young people across the county to take part, and make this one of the most popular challenges yet!”
Entries to the Tri-Golf Challenge are open until Friday 19 June. Also currently open is the Secondary Netball Challenge, which closes on Friday (12 June).
