Keith Measures sadly passed away on Sunday 24th November after a short but brave battle with cancer. Keith completed 397 parkruns over 10 years and when he received the awful news of his illness, one of his first reactions was frustration at not ticking off his 400th! The majority of his runs were at Newark and he made regular appearances at Belton House, where he often volunteered and also lent a hand at Wyndham Park Junior parkrun. He was usually one of the first to arrive at Newark and always cheerful, regardless of the weather or any niggling injuries he may have had. He also volunteered on 85 occasions and his favourite role was course check; easy for Keith as he would always complete a proper warm up and I often joined him on his steady lap round the course. After his run you’d find him engaging in friendly banter with other parkrunners in Rumbles café. Outside of parkrun he was member of both Grantham Athletic Club and Grantham Running Club, as well as helping to organise Newton’s Fraction Half Marathon which some of you will be familiar with. Over his long running career, he competed at all distances, including London Marathon in the early 1980’s and again in 2013. Keith grew up in a competitive club environment, always chasing a pb, but maybe without realising it, he became a great advert for what parkrun is all about today. Keith you will be sadly missed by all at parkrun as well as the wider running community and our thoughts go to your family and friends. |
