Keeping the county safe during the Euros final

Lincolnshire Police says…

Reaching the Euros 2024 final is an incredible achievement, and we wish England the very best of luck on Sunday.

The team have done us proud, and we are appealing to the county to let this be a safe and positive celebration, whatever the result.

Superintendent Pat Coates said: “We want people to enjoy the final but it’s important that we repeat our message that we want people to do this sensibly. We will have additional Police Officers on duty across the county. Crime and disorder will not be tolerated so don’t spoil it for yourselves, or others.”

“With a leave ban in place, there are many officers who will be gutted to be working during the match rather than enjoying it with friends or family. This is part of the job and something we all accept. It would just help if everyone could do their part in making their shift an easy one!” 

Sadly, we have found a correlation between big football tournaments and increases in domestic abuse in Lincolnshire. Throughout the Euros 2024, we have been sharing messages about the support and help available and we will continue to do so throughout the weekend. While an overall increase of 12% in the number of reports was recorded during the 2021 Euros tournament, the greatest increase was seen following the final which saw a 37% increase (an average of 42 incidents on the day and the day following the final, compared to the June/July average of 30.59 incidents).

Our focus will also be on keeping our roads safe. Supt Coates added, “It’s the responsibility of anyone behind the wheel to be sure they are fit to drive. We will be policing our roads on the night with a focus on drink or drug drivers. People also need to consider whether they are fit to drive on Monday morning.”
