Staff, patients and members of the public are being invited to take part in a fun sponsored event that will help to improve the experience of hospital patients in the future.
Not only will you get your adrenaline pumping and heart beating a little faster at the ULHT fitathon, but any money you raise will be donated to United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust Charitable Funds.
Last year hundreds of hospital staff took part in the first fitathon, when Outpatients Matron Sam Daniels teamed up with Active Nation at Yarborough Leisure Centre and class instructors from across the region to offer one class every hour over 24 hours.
One of the first projects to benefit was a garden area for cancer patients and their families at Lincoln County Hospital.
Following the success of the first fitathon, Sam and the team have planned a second fitathon, with a plan to make it even better than last year.
Sam said: “Only a few of us were crazy enough to stay for the full 24 hours last year, but the atmosphere and support from everyone was amazing. Not only did we raise a lot of money that is going to benefit patients at our hospitals, but it was inspiring to see so many staff getting active.
“Now our challenge is to make it even better this year and get even more people involved. You don’t have to do the full 24 hours, some people are only doing one class, it really is a case of do what you feel like and join in the fun. All that we ask is that you either get sponsorship or make a donation for each class you take part in.”
Are you up for the challenge? The fitathon will start at 5pm on Friday 26 April and will run right the way through to 5pm on Saturday 27 April. Classes included everything from spin to Clubbercise, yoga, Bollywood, Boxfit and everything in between. The team will also collect donations from the centre’s supporters by manning two studio bikes in the reception area.
Sam added: “I would like to say a massive thank you to all of the instructors and Active Nation – everyone has agreed to give us their time and the studio space for free. This means that any money we raise can be used to make a difference for our patients and staff.”
