| South Kesteven District Council’s award-winning park has picked up another two accolades at a national ceremony. |
| At the Horticulture Week 2019 Custodian Awards Wyndham Park in Grantham, achieved highly commended status in the Best Parks Restoration or Development Project category and was a finalist in the Best Heritage Park category. This follows a £1m Heritage Lottery-funded project to restore Wyndham to its former glory as the town’s World War One memorial park was completed last year. As part of the improvements programme buildings have been refurbished and a new Visitor Centre built.SKDC Cabinet Member for Commercial and Operations, Cllr Dr Peter Moseley, who attended the awards ceremony at Woburn Abbey, said: “Wyndham is now one of the very best public parks in the East Midlands. “The park has always been cherished by the community and public involvement in the development and delivery of the restoration project was always at the heart of our plans.” Horticulture Week magazine covers all aspects of the horticulture industry. Its annual awards celebrate the best of parks, gardens and tree management, showcasing efforts to ensure the best possible future for green spaces, including public parks.Cllr Dr Moseley said: “SKDC has recognised the broader benefits and positive impact of the Wyndham Park project on the community and plans to utilise the project model to enhance other public areas under its control.” The park has achieved Green Flag status for seven consecutive years. |
