Sarah Ann Ironmonger 1867 – 1938
Mrs Ironmonger was best known for her work under the Poor Law.
She took a strong interest in the inmates of the County Institution (Hillview Workhouse) on Dysart Road, organising both egg week and annual outings.
She was founder of the Women’s Guild connect to the Co-operative Society, in 1892.
Sarah was also elected to the Board of Guardians in 1919, missing only one meeting in her on there.
Mrs Ironmonger was also a member of Kesteven National Health Insurance Committee.
She was also a founder member of the Grantham Labour Party as well as serving on the executive of Sleaford’s equivalent.
Unfortunately she was less successful in politics, failing to get elected when she stood for the Town Council.Married to husband for more than 50 years, the couple lived on Brewery Hill.
