Iconic organ returns to Grantham – photos

The Compton organ, which began life in Grantham’s State cinema in 1937 has returned to Grantham after 50 years.

Introduced by top organist Reginald New and played regularly by Ken Simmons for decades later, left town when the cinema – by then renamed the Granada and serving as a bingo hall – was demolished in 1988.

After half a century in private hands, it has now re-appeared as an exhibit in Grantham Museum, St Peter’s Hill
