Hundreds of children from across the county came together for the Sainsbury’s School Games Lincolnshire Summer Festival on July 8.
Grantham Meres Leisure Centre hosted the event that saw youngsters compete in goalball, volleyball, athletics, hockey, rounders and tennis.
The event, a national initiative launched by central government, is a chance for all Lincolnshire schools to build on existing work and boost school sport.
Great Britain hockey goalkeeper, Kirsty Mackay, was guest of honour and encouraged the children to do their very best throughout the day.
She said: “I first represented England Hockey when I was 13. It is one of the best feelings I get when I represent my country and I hope to compete in the Rio Olympics next year.
“Give everything you can to be the best you can be.”
Lincolnshire Local Organising Committee Chair, Chris Beckett said: “I would like to thank all members of the organising committee for all of their hard work which has made this event possible and thanks to SKDC and 1Life for the use of their facility.”
Cllr Linda Wootten, the council’s portfolio holder for leisure and arts said that it was great to see so many children taking part in sport.
“It reminds me of my own school days and I hope that the children had a great time taking part in all of the events,” she said.
“We are so lucky to have such a great venue in our district and this type of event really shows it off.”
