How the Meres has changed

The Meres was a series of football pitches off what is now Trent Road. That was before the development of the leisure centre and SKDC Stadium.

Hedley Davies recallls playing there with St Annes FC, but other teams include…

Saturdays:

St Anne’s FC  x2 played on a pitch near to St Hughes school in early / mid 70s then finished in late 80s on the other side where Bowling Club is now. Grantham Amateurs FC x 2  next pitch to St Anne’s on one side and Grantham St John’s on the other – their pitch was roped off – much better standard than the rest of the teams. 

Earlsfield FC Vacu Lug FC? 

Later: Blue Horse FC alongside Trent Rd where Grantham FC play. Spread Eagle FC

Sundays:

Meres Rovers FC

Beeden Park FC

Harrowby Villa FC? 

We all had a shed type changing room for many years as the one that was sadly destroyed. Council Changing Room later on where Bowling Club located.
