To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, which is taking place Monday 6th to Sunday 12th February, Allison Homes caught up with one of its Bourne-based apprentices, after providing them with opportunities within the construction industry.
Rubie Searson, Business Admin Apprentice at Allison Homes

In September 2022, Allison Homes engaged 18 apprentices to work at its group head office and central regional office, in Bourne, Lincolnshire, and developments across its central region.
Four of the 18 new apprentices are Poppy Ludgate, 20, Jenson Weldon, 18, Rubie Searson, 17, and Rio Young, 17, who all attend Peterborough College, with Rubie being from Bourne and working at Allison Homes’ group head office and central region office.
Rubie, who lives on the outskirts of Bourne, is working as a Business Admin Apprentice.
Rubie commented: “I’m currently doing a three-month rotation in each department, including Land and Planning, Commercial, and Sales and Marketing. I’m constantly learning and expanding my skills, so my role varies a lot day to day depending on who I’m working with. Allison Homes is a very supportive employer, and I’m looking forward to working my way up the career ladder.”
Poppy Ludgate, Carpenter Apprentice at Allison Homes

Poppy and Jenson recently joined Allison Homes as Carpenter Apprentices and currently work on the group’s central region developments in Cambridgeshire. Poppy is a part of the team at Cromwell Fields in Bury, and Jenson is based at Whittlesey Green in Whittlesey.
Poppy added: “I enjoy learning whilst being hands on and putting into practice what I’m being told and shown, as well as mixing with all the people on site and understanding how the different trades rely on each other.
“Allison Homes is very professional, ensuring health and safety is a priority, and that I have everything I need to be able to work efficiently. The team are extremely approachable and welcoming, and I feel I have settled in nicely and quickly.”
Jenson added: “I enjoy being able to learn hands on about something I’m passionate about. Everyone at Allison Homes is really helpful and quick to respond when I have any questions.”
Also based on site at Whittlesey Green is Rio, a Bricklayer Apprentice from Peterborough.

Naomi Tickle, Apprenticeship Development Manager at Allison Homes, said: “We are thrilled to have welcomed 18 enthusiastic new apprentices to the Allison Homes family, and are so proud of how quickly they’ve thrown themselves into their learning and work.
“Working on site and in our offices gives apprentices invaluable hands on experience, and provides them with skills that can’t easily be taught in a classroom.”
Mike Thompson, Head of Group HR at Allison Homes, added: “It’s important to us at Allison Homes to invest in developing our future talent, and to foster a team of diverse and skilled individuals. We love providing our apprentices with the opportunity to flourish within the industry, and will continue to support them from now until they complete their courses.”
