Teams working in hospital kitchens across the county are making sure patients and staff get to join in the coronation festivities this weekend.
All week the restaurant teams at Lincoln, Boston and Grantham hospitals have been providing special meals from around the Commonwealth for thousands of patients and staff. Dishes have included curries, stews and pies.
On Coronation Day patients will have a themed British feast for lunch from a choice of roast Welsh lamb, Scottish beef stew or macaroni and leek hotpot with lots of trimmings and delicious puddings. This will be followed by a street party afternoon tea on all of the wards with thousands of triangular sandwiches, more than 1,000 cupcakes, hundreds of scones and so much more.
Preparations have been underway in the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust kitchens and catering teams for many weeks.
Team Leader Patricia Hopkins at Lincoln County Hospital kitchens said: “All of our teams have worked really hard to make sure our patients get to enjoy all of the festivities. Our wards and departments have been putting up the flags and bunting and we are making sure that we are able to provide our patients with a meal that is fit for a king!
“A lot of love, care and attention has gone into preparing all of the food for patients and staff this week to mark this momentous occasion.”
Adele Would, Retail Catering Manager, said: “I am so proud of the retail and catering teams from across all of our hospitals in Lincoln, Grantham and Boston. They really have pulled out all of the stops to make sure that our staff and patients, who, despite being in hospital, still get to enjoy all of the celebrations.”
Head of Facilities, Wayne McIntosh, said: “Well done to our teams for all of the effort that they have put in to make this such a special occasion.”
