Have your say on dog exercise and biodiversity proposals for Wyndham Park

February 5, 2025 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

A proposal to set aside part of Wyndham Park as a space for nature, where biodiversity is encouraged, is out for consultation today (Tuesday 4th February) – and South Kesteven District Council wants your opinion.

The area, located on the east side of the park adjacent to Sandon Road, would be fenced so that it could also be used to exercise dogs off their leads.

The survey will run for two weeks, closing on February 18th.

Keen to measure the extent of support for the proposal, SKDC wants to hear the views from a variety of people, including those who live near Wyndham Park or are regular visitors. Dog owners and walkers are also encouraged to comment.

The scheme, if approved, would cover 4,025 square metres of parkland. Just under half – some 2,000 square metres – would be meadowland. There would also be a pattern of wide mown pathways, some tree planting and 260 metres of perimeter fencing.

Wyndham Park Consultation

Cllr Paul Stokes, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, said: “South Kesteven District Council is committed to reducing carbon emissions and is working hard to ensure our area is well adapted to the demands of a changing climate.

“We want to encourage biodiversity wherever and whenever we can and would also like to be able to provide an area where dogs can be exercised either on or off the lead safely and securely – an amenity which has been requested by those visiting the park.

“Please respond to our survey and help us measure the extent of support for this project.”

The consultation closes on 18th February. To take part, please go to: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/biodep25

Printed copies of the survey available on request. Please contact our project team via email: climatechange@southkesteven.gov.uk or by phone 01476 406080. Copies will also be available in Wyndham Park’s Visitor Centre in Grantham.
