Learn about the weird and darker elements of space at Woolsthorpe Manor, get crafty with apples at The Workhouse in Southwell, or explore the spooky ghostly trail at Tattershall Castle. Try something different with a trip to explore the beautiful grounds at Lyveden in Northamptonshire, where you can have a go at their new pumpkin trail in the Elizabethan gardens.

Belton House
Visit Belton House for a variety of nature inspired activities including autumn trails, storytelling, face painting, puppet shows and more this October half term.
The Brownlow family who once lived at Belton loved their dogs, can you spot the pups around the mansion this autumn? Out in the parkland, you can enjoy a seasonal family walk surrounded by the splendour of Belton’s autumn colours. Take a picturesque scavenger hunt or follow the animal tracks trail to discover the wildlife that call Belton their home.
The Workhouse, Southwell
Experience colour, culture and creativity at The Workhouse – there are plenty of activities to keep the whole family engaged. Autumn at The Workhouse brings a splash of colour to the recreated kitchen garden as squash and pumpkins ripen. Get creative with our craft activities, make the most of the apple and pumpkin harvest with apple themed activities and the Curious Pumpkin Trail.
Woolsthorpe Manor
Bring your future Newtons to Woolsthorpe Manor for a day of space exploration, fun and discovery. You can follow the daily free Fun Facts Space Trail, get busy testing Newton’s theories in the Science Centre and explore the two-thirds scale Lego® model of the Soyuz Orbital Module in the Barn. Join one of our half term Weird Universe weekend workshops to explore dark matter, space and other weird stuff.
Gunby Estate, Hall and Gardens
This half term have fun with your family and friends at Gunby: play croquet on the lawn, find birds on the bird trail in the house, and see if you can spot Gunby cats Craig and Committee near the stacked-up pumpkins in the kitchen garden. If you feel energetic, go for a walk to the ice house pond and kick the autumn leaves on your way there. Warm up again in the tea-room with a hot chocolate and a well-deserved piece of cake. If you want to get spooked, visit on Saturday 26 October when the Gunby ghosts will haunt the hall throughout the day.
Tattershall Castle
Get spooky at Tattershall Castle during the Halloween Half Term happening Monday 21 – Sunday 27 October (11am-4pm). Take a spine-tingling Halloween trail that is sure to give little monsters goosebumps and sink your fangs into some creepy crafting activities (additional charges apply). The castle will be covered in cobwebs and lots of delightful surprises will be found around every corner. Be prepared for skeletons, spiders and some spooky goings-on.
If you’re really brave, have a creep through the castle and meet some of the resident ghosts that float around these haunted walls with a Castle Ghost Tour from 25 – 26 and 30 – 31 October during the pitch-black evening. Spaces are limited for this unique opportunity, so get your booking in today.
Lyveden, Northamptonshire
Join in the fun this October half term at Lyveden. Explore the garden landscape with two trails and see what’s happening in the Family Den. Take a stroll through the leaves and tick off some of your ‘50 things to do before you’re 11¾’.
Take part in the very first Lyveden Apple trail, 12 – 25 October, and explore the autumn landscape as you get to know a tree, have fun with sticks and join nature’s band.
Search for pumpkins on the brand-new Halloween themed family trail, 26 October – 3 November, and create your own spooky art in the Family Den.
