The Civic Society is about to publish Janice Webb’s book Grantham’s Hidden Graveyard Revealed.
It tells the story of the Manthorpe Road burial ground, and has many photographs of the surviving headstones and details of some of the masons who made these.
The book will be published at £10 per copy so by subscribing now you will save £2.
Janice has been researching material for the book for several years and has produced a fascinating account which also gives an insight into the social history of Grantham in the first half of the 19th century.
The book will make a great Christmas or birthday gift and, of course, especially if you put the gift recipient’s name in the book as a subscriber as well as your own.
To become an advance subscriber involves paying £8 up front for a copy of the 84 page (approx) book which is well-illustrated and indexed.
Time is short as this is already at the Printer’s but we can include names received by Friday 14 August
Please let publishers Grantham Civic Society know how you want your name/s to appear in the List of Subscribers, for example, J. Smith or Jane Smith.
Proceeds from the book will enable us to continue our work to commemorate famous people, places and events in the town.
You can take or send the Civic Society Chairman, Courtney Finn, a cheque for your book/s made payable to Grantham Civic Society (to Brownacres, Green Lane, Grantham, NG31 9PP) or pay by BACS transfer to the society at NatWest Grantham, sort code 60-09-09 account number 03305198 but you must note your name so that the Treasurer can identify the source of the payment.
The book will be ready at the Heritage weekend on 11, 12 and 13 September.
