Two good causes have received financial support from South Kesteven District Council’s Ward Member Grant scheme.
Disabled children and their families are a step nearer a dream trip to Disneyland Paris after a £500 donation from South Kesteven District Councillor George Chivers.
His Ward Member Grant will support Grantham Disabled Children’s Society’s target of £5,000 for the holiday.
Councillor Chivers, who represents Grantham’s Belmont Ward, said: “This club is all about helping disabled children and their families avoid isolation brought on by some of the constraints they can come up against.
“A trip to Disneyland Paris will help them enjoy new experiences.”
Club volunteer Michaela Stokes said: “We are a not-for-profit group run by volunteers. We run activities and events to include the whole family and we’re hoping this trip will be a wonderful experience for them.”
Grantham Foodbank enjoyed a winter boost with a £1,000 donation from Arnoldfield Councillor Dean Ward.
“They can turn £1,000 into £7,000-worth of food through their buying power and agreements with local supermarkets,” said Cllr Ward. “With the weather getting colder people on low incomes can have tough choices to make between heating and food and should never happen in this day and age.”
Foodbank co-ordinator Brian Hanbury said: “This will help support local people at a time of crisis in their lives which is what we’re all about – restoring dignity, reviving hope and rebuilding local communities.
“We’re always grateful for donations of food or money and look forward to turning this donation into something that will give real help.”
