– Saturday 19th October 2024 –
Grantham’s first Festival of Community will take place in the newly refurbished Market Place from 10am om Saturday.
There will be everything from exhibitions, street performers and exhibitions to a community stage with local poets, choirs and singers.
Theatre companies Boondog Balladeers, Earth Bound Misfits, Aritzani and Mishap Theatre will be performing.
Visitors will also get the chance to play The Fabuloso Organ, an interactive electronic instrument created by sculptor and engineer Dave Cranmer.
The Punjabi Roots Academy will perform in the evening alongside a DJ set and Dhol drumming.
The event has engaged with just over 500 local individuals over summer and up to last week. This has been through local community workshops in creating lanterns for our community parade, school engagement through re-imagining Lindpet House in our ‘Past, Present, Future’ projection show and visiting local community groups to make life sized sheep lanterns!
The Festival is very much a celebration of the heritage of the Market Place and community of Grantham and I am really keen to engage as many local people on the day as possible.
Just over 500 individual’s be part of the event build up so far which I am extremely proud of. This is broken down as follows:
