Grantham women who made the weapons of war

Munition girl workers at Richard Hornsby and Sons, during First World War 1916

THIS is one of the many photos that people find in their drawers because a member of family is on them, but there is nothing to record what it actually is or who they are for that matter.

But the dress and the protective headwear, they are most likely munitions workers in Grantham during the First World War.

They are most likely engaged by Richard Hornsby, whose London Road factory lost many of its male employees to war service.

Neil Potter, of Harlaxton, who sent in the picture believes the lady standing far right is a distant relative.
