Grantham Town FC exhibition opens at Museum

February 5, 2020 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

THIS Grantham football team made headlines way back in 1895 when they almost held the mighty Blackburn Rovers. Among those pictured is an extremely well-dressed “umpire”, better known these days as a linesman. Pictured are – back, from left – T. Strickson (umpire), T. Seagar, Shannon, J. Broadbent, W. Copson, F. Geeson, J. Austin, A. J. Bush (referee). Middle, from left – T. J. Brittain (Captain), W. Wood. Front, from left – A. E. Slater, Capt Curtis and N. Orston.

Starting tomorrow 6th February, Grantham Museum will be holding an exhibition dedicated to 145 years of Grantham Town Football Club.

Grantham Museum will explore the history of the club, the management and the highs and the lows.

David Burling, Museum Chairman says “We hope you enjoy learning about the history of the club as we shine a light on our shared heritage. We would like to thank the invaluable help from Jon Barnes, Nigel Wedgwood, Grantham College, Simon Hayes and others who have helped us bring this together”.

Chairman Sophie Cope “The hard work put in by everyone to get the exhibition ready has been incredible. We’re very grateful that the Supporters have got behind the Museum, I’m very much looking forward to getting in to see it!”

The exhibition runs until May.
