Grantham Station Approach November update

The latest update on the Grantham Station Approach improvements.

What we achieved in October

Phase 2 – Wharf Road/Station Road traffic island and Station Road footway
  • Removed existing paving from footway and existing bituminous material, tactiles, edgings and kerbs from island
  • Changed the layout of the central splitter island
  • Installed kerbs, edgings and tactile paving to the island and footway
  • Installed sockets for new signal posts
  • Laid new tactile paving and binder to Harlaxton/Station Road corner
  • Trimmed sub-base; removed, replaced and reset iron works; and laid new binder
  • Installed concrete to raised areas of island
  • Ground penetrating radar (GPR) survey of underground utilities

What’s happening in November

Phase 3 – Harlaxton Road/Sankt Augustin Way traffic island and footway
  • Remove pedestrian guard rail and signposts
  • Remove existing paving from footway
  • Remove existing bituminous material, tactiles, edgings and kerbs from island
  • Install sockets for new signal and sign posts
  • Trim sub base; remove replace and reset ironworks; and install traffic signal ducting
  • Install tactile paving to island and footway
  • Install binder to footways
  • Install finish concrete to islands
Phase 4 – Westgate/Sankt Augustin Way traffic island and footway
  • Remove existing guard railing
  • Remove existing bituminous material, tactiles, edgings and kerbs from island
  • Remove existing paving and tactiles from footway
  • Install traffic signal sockets
  • Trim sub base

Current/ongoing traffic restrictions and closures

  • Monday 28 October until mid-November – temporary traffic signals to take traffic coming from Harlaxton Road counter-clockwise around the traffic island on the Harlaxton Road/Sankt Augustin Way junction while works are carried out at this location
    • All vehicles are encouraged to proceed with caution during this phase of works
    • Queues are likely during these works, so people are encouraged to leave extra time for their journeys
    • HGVs are likely to experience difficulties when manoeuvring at the junction and are encouraged to use an alternative route, depending on their route

Upcoming traffic restrictions and closures

  • Mid-November to mid-December – closure of slip road off Westgate to Sankt Augustin Way
    • Traffic from Westgate will be diverted via Wharf Road, High Street, Watergate and Barrowby Road onto Sankt Augustin Way
  • Early December to mid-December – full night-time closure of the Station Approach junction, including weekends
