Grantham residents invited to meeting on flooding around Withambrook area

July 3, 2019 by Grantham Matters 1 Comment

Residents living in the Withambrook area of Grantham are being invited to share their experiences of flooding at an ‘information event’ next week.

Taking place on Monday 15 July from 1-7pm at the Jubilee Church Life Centre on London Road, Grantham, the event will allow residents to share information with flooding officers from Lincolnshire County Council.

Councillor Colin Davie, portfolio holder for flood management at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “A number of homes on Cavendish Way and Coxmoor Close were affected by flooding from different sources in 2015, so we’re trying to see if there are any ways we could reduce the risk of it happening again.

“We are in the initial planning phase at the moment and we want to ensure we get the right and most appropriate plan. We’d really like to talk to as many people possible who live or work in the area and hear their thoughts and experiences. From the information we gather, we will be then be able to put a business case together to bid for further funding to protect residents and homes in the area.”

Councillor Linda Wootten, Lincolnshire County Council member for Grantham North said: “It is heart-breaking to see firsthand residents’ beautiful homes destroyed by flood water. I’d really encourage people to come along, tell the council what happened and what you feel would stop the flooding happening again.”

If you can’t attend, but would like to talk about your experiences, please contact us on 01522 782070 or email cschighways@lincolnshire.gov.uk

  1. The Thinker says

Councillor Linda Wooten wants people to go along to a meeting and inform the council what happened and what they feel would stop flooding taking place again,
The council pass the plans for building of vast numbers of houses and then when it goes belly up, in this case flooding they want to pretend they are concerned for the individuals affected.
    What ever next?
How about before you sign off the next vast area to be covered in concrete and houses you give due consideration to the impact such a scheme may have on the possibility of flooding, do this before anybody else has their life blighted.
