Grantham Museum was founded in 1926 and has been celebrating Grantham’s history and
heritage for almost a century.
The Museum celebrates the lives of some of Grantham’s most famous residents, including
Sir Isaac Newton and Baroness Thatcher, as well as the industrial, military, and social history
of the town.
As with many museums and heritage organisations, the Covid-19 pandemic had a
significantly detrimental impact on the operation of the museum. Volunteer numbers
reduced, the museum lost significant income and visitor levels have yet to recover.
As we move out of the pandemic, Grantham Museum is taking this opportunity to relaunch
the museum and redefine how the museum engages with the community and thanks to the
National Lottery Heritage Fund they have been able to engage with three external
consultants to support their relaunch.
This is the first in a series of phased projects which will see the museum grow and diversify
their audience and volunteer base, working to develop their offer of exhibitions and events,
complete a programme of capital works, and finally regain the collection in time for their
centenary celebrations in 2026.
To explore what local people think of the Museum, they have launched a survey and are
reaching out to anyone that would be able to give 5 minutes of their time, whether they have
visited the Museum or not in the past.
